YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today
accused the N Chandrababu Naidu government of “diluting” the much-touted
loan waiver scheme and “reneging” on various promises made by the TDP
chief ahead of elections.
He also announced intensifying YSRCP’s stir for speedy implementation
of the loan waiver and other promises which were made by TDP in its
election manifesto.Responding to Naidu’s announcement today on implementing loan waiver from December 10 in a phased manner, Reddy alleged the TDP chief had promised waiving off agriculture loan before elections, but has changed the tune now.
“There are one crore accounts (of farmers), but he (Naidu) says there are 22 lakh accounts. Agricultural loans amount to about Rs 87,000 crore, he does not even say how much he would waive off. Only the burden of penal interest on farmers comes to Rs 14,000 crores. But he would release only Rs 5,000 crores,” Jagan told reporters here.
Showing news channel clippings, Jagan said Naidu had promised at the time of elections to waive off all agriculture loans. “Naidu had promised to waive loans of self-help group women, but has not done anything concrete so far. Suicides by farmers are also taking place in the state,” he alleged.
YSR Congress would organise dharna in front of offices of district collectors tomorrow in protest against the “failure” of the TDP government to implement its election promises, he said.
Replying to a query, the YSRCP chief wondered whether Naidu was not aware at the time of elections that Andhra Pradesh, post-bifurcation, would have a deficit budget.
